Potty Training - Part 2 - The Adventure Continues!

 My little boy's growing up!

I wrote post back in early September about how Milo's Kita (nursery/daycare) had begun the potty training process with Milo in 'Potty Training Part 1 - The Adventure Begins!' Well, we find ourselves now almost 2 months down the line and it's been an interesting experience. I have to admit that I have been pretty slow with my part in the whole process. Nervous of public weeing incidents and of Milo going to the toilet on the sofa (which doubles up as my bed!) kept me from really putting my heart in to the whole routine for a while and I know that's pretty bad. Thank God for the people at his nursery! They did most of the hard work I have to admit and I am very grateful to them for it. It took Milo a while but one afternoon when I picked Milo up, the teacher mentioned to me that she thought something had clicked in him and that he'd realised why he needed to go on the toilet. At this point I was still taking home bags of wee soaked clothing but the amounts were getting less and less. It then got to the point a couple of weeks ago that it was an unsual occurance to need to do any washing from his time at Kita but he was still peeing alot in his trousers at home. Hearing from his dad that he likes to go on the actual toilet rather then in the potty, I bought one of those toilet trainer seats (UK, Germany, America) and that has worked well. He enjoys being like a grown up and using the toilet and yesterday we bought him a little step from Ikea to help aid him in being able to use the toilet alone.

As warned by many an experienced mum, Milo has had a bit of a back step of late in his potty training and at one point last week he peeed himself 3 times right through within 1 hour! Eeek! I put on two lots of washing that day! I am still nervous about having him out and about without his nappy on, especially as the wind's picked up of late and it's a little fresh in the air but so far, apart from once in the early days, it's worked well. We were out and about without his nappy for almost 2 hours the other day no problem and I mainly remember to bring a spare pair of pants and trousers with me (it's a bit like having a little baby again that part!). I am happy though. I never planned to potty train him quite yet but at least that goal is (almost) out of the way, now on to the next developmental step whatever that may be!

  1. Accidents will happen for quite a few months, but it sounds like the major "work" is done :) I am a firm believer in early potty training (my boys were trained at 26 months and at 19 months), most kids are totally ready by then but it's the adults who usually aren't :)

  2. I must admit that I would have happily waited until Milo was 3 despite doing a lot of the other things early like getting rid of the bottle as soon as he turned 1, but I am happy it's done now (well mainly).
