A Bit of History Naturally!
Today 'The Englander' and I took little Milo to 'The Natural History Museum' for the first time. It wasn't exactly how I had imagined, having only seen a few pics in Berlin guide books before, I had imagined that it would primarily evolve around dinosaurs (no problem with that!) but it actually included so much more including life size models of giant Antelope (the word 'giant' really was fitting to these magnificent creatures) and large replica's of Mosquitos (we know those horrible things far too well in this household) and flies. Milo loved running around the place and there was little trouble he could cause which was a relief in comparison to some museums where the thought of going with a toddler fills me with dread!
We had a great time but I must admit that it a little lacking in the interactive department. What interactive items they did have were fabulous, for example there was a dinosaur model from which you could remove layers and witness its muscles and then its bone structure, but they were a little too few and far between when you measure it up to say, the 'The Spectrum Science Center' which was amazing with Milo.
I would recommend checking it out though for a rainy afternoon or freezing day. Check out some of our pics from this morning...
If you live in Berlin or are thinking about visiting this wonderful City, head on over to my new Facebook page 'Berlin with Kids' to share & discover even more family related activities and classes going on in and around Berlin.
I love to read your comments so please feel free to let me know what you think...

We were going to go there yesterday afternoon because we've got a cousin over, but everybody was too tired, but it's great isn't it?
ReplyDeleteI never knew about the Spectrum Science Center, but it's now top of my list of places to go. Thanks for the tip!
Aw, we could have bumped in to each other there! It was good fun but yes I DEFINITELY recommend Spectrum. The top two floors are the best. Milo LOVED it and there's so many buttons for kids to press and things to do.
ReplyDeleteI took my son here last autumn when he was 20 months, thinking there'll be a lot of space for him to walk a bout and lots of things to see and explore. We were there on a week day, and unfortunately I think it was a bad move at the time. It's probably much more suitable for the older kids, as the atmosphere in the museum was pretty eerily to say the least. Not busy and exciting like the one in London and a lot of the rooms were dark and quiet due to the lack of visitors. So my little boy was pretty scared and demanded to be picked up only! i was also pushing my buggy around too.. So about an hr later i just had to get out.
ReplyDeleteHi Ann,
DeleteI was disappointed about the lack of interesting exhibits for younger ones too, it seems to be a regular complaint of alot of the museums here in comparison to what I've seen in other countries. A real shame and a missed opportunity I reckon.
